Adding Pages to Passports

As of January 1, 2016, the US Department of State (DOS) no longer adds extra passport visa pages. For US citizens applying for passports from outside the United States, the Department now issues 52-page passport books at no additional charge.

If your current passport is nearing full capacity, consider renewing your passport before your next international trip. Having a passport with plenty of blank pages is essential, as some countries require two blank pages for their entry and exit stamps.

Visa Photos

US visa photos are similar to passport photos (the same for most countries), but always double-check to see if there are any specific requirements for the visa type you want.

Generally, the visa photo requirements include:

• A color photo that’s 2×2 inches in size.
• A photo taken within the last six months.
• The picture must be clear, showing a full-face view directly facing the camera and against a plain background, free from shadows.
• Have a neutral expression with both eyes open and mouth closed. Do not wear your glasses.

You can also choose to receive your visa photo as a digital copy.

Green Card Photos

The United States photo documents for a Green Card (or Permanent Resident Card) application vary slightly.

Photo requirements include:

• A color photo of 2×2 inches in size.
• You must show a front view of your face with the same background as a US passport photo.
• Photos must be taken within 30 days of the application.
• Must have a neutral expression with eyes open and mouth closed.
